LOT 54 UNITS IRIDESCENT AMMONITES
Not available
Iridescent ammonite is the popular name given to the fossilized shells of ammonites (extinct mollusks) that exhibit a striking rainbow effect.
The iridescence of these shells is due to a very particular fossilization process, in which the shell's nacreous layer (aragonite) is preserved and mineralized into very thin layers. When light hits these layers, it splits and reflects in different colors, creating an opaline effect similar to that of pearls.
