BLACK TECTITE (MOROCCO)

Called Desert Crystal.

This tektite was generated by a meteorite impact.

The more rounded (weathered) shape is a product of the desert area where they are found and their alteration by desert sand.

These tektites were found in Tutankhamun's Egyptian chamber and are considered jewels.

Their approximate age is estimated to be 29 million years, and their composition is pure silica, formed at approximately 1600°C.
